Force Free Pet Sitters and Dog Walkers in Virginia Beach

http://www.petprofessionalguild.com/

You and We.. and Force Free

Did you know ? We are the only Hampton Roads area force free pet sitters and dog walkers and we’re also members of the Pet Professional Guild! This is one of our proudest accomplishments, and it all started when we had one of our Lightbulb Moments.

We realized, hey we’re not just the dog’s nanny. We’re the dog’s advocate. We’re not just litter box scoopers, we’re extraordinarily experienced pet handlers and we understand pets in a way that many do not. This is why we do what we do.

We know why your dog is lunging at that other dog, and we understand why that cat just peed on the floor right in front of us. It never occurs to us that the pet is being bad, because we know they are not. Our first thought is “What happened? What is going on? Is this medical? Behavioral? Trauma or tragedy speaking?”

There are no bad pets. So why are people always saying there are? They are simply misunderstood.

Specifically, we adhere to the following Guiding Principles of the PPG when caring for any pet.

To be in anyway affiliated with the Pet Professional Guild all members must adhere to a strict code of conduct. Pet Professional Guild Members Understand Force-Free to mean: no shock, no pain, no choke, no fear, no physical force, no physical molding, no compulsion based methods are employed to train or care for a pet.

Back in the Day

In the beginning, we had all kinds of clients. Some of our clients weren’t the kind of people we wanted to know, and it broke our hearts to see how they treated their pets. Some of our clients bought heavily into the whole Cesar Milan thing or had Dominance Theory trainers who bought into it, too. Cesar does make the occasional good point, and we thought he was pretty cool right up until we learned a few years ago that he’s actually a bit of a jerk to be around if you’re a dog who needs training.

Marvie and I had several discussions and finally we decided we had to put our foot down. We couldn’t continue to run this business with a smile on our faces while not actively informing our clients about pain and dominance trainers here locally. We no longer accept clients who utilize painful or forceful methods on their pets.

You Can Lead A Horse To Water.. But Will He Drink?

We understand that many people do not realize there is more than one way to train a dog or a cat, or don’t know certain methods can be deeply damaging to a pet. So we educate with the latest news, the words of trainers we follow, and our own knowledge and experience.

Along the way, we found that we had clients in need of trainers. That is a hefty responsibility.. what if we recommend the wrong one? We could say we don’t know any, but that pretty much leaves the client on their own to possibly pick the ones we would never recommend. We started to research the Pet Professional Guild, The Karen Pryor Academy, and Victoria Stillwell’s Positively Dog Training. We’ve joined multiple online groups, read multiple books, are networking locally, and have become members of The Pet Professional Guild all in order to better serve our clients. We don’t recommend a single Positive Trainer. We recommend them ALL.

No Lip Service Here

We are not the pet sitter or dog walker your mom had and we’re not like any other dog walker or pet sitter in the 7 cities. We’re armed with knowledge, contacts, links and tons of anecdotal references. Most importantly, every single pet sitter and dog walker who works for our company is screened for poor habits before employment is made permanent, and trained in proper leash handling, corrections and rewards. It is our belief that a happy dog results from caring handling, and our clients can attest to this, too!

Our pledge to you: At no point will any pet in your household be subject to mishandling, aggression, dominance, pain or violence with our employees. Guaranteed.
